Connecting to a SAP HANA database using Data Studio

From the Data Studio v1.6.1 release onwards, we've made it easier to connect to a SAP HANA database directly from Data Studio. With the SAP HANA JDBC connection you can load in data from HANA to Data Studio, or export back.

First, you'll need to locate the SAP HANA driver. The driver (ngdbc.jar) is installed as part of the SAP HANA client installation (if you don't have this, you can download it from the SAP Development Tools site) and by default is located at:

  • C:\Program Files\sap\hdbclient\ on Microsoft Windows platforms
  • /usr/sap/hdbclient/ on Linux and UNIX platforms

Next, deploy the driver to Data Studio's \drivers folder as described in the custom driver help section of the docs.

Then follow the steps in this video to configure and use the driver in Data Studio: Creating a SAP HANA JDBC connection in Aperture Data Studio v1.6.1 (turn on the closed captions for more detail about what your're seeing).

Data Studio v1.6.1 will be available for download in early November 2019

  • Does the Aperture v2 work similarly with SAP HANA or older versions? Or is there known issues why it would not work?

What about Microsoft Dynamics 365 or older AX and Dynamics?

    Hi @Sami Laine

Using the SAP HANA driver in Data Studio v2 is similar to v1: You'd add the custom driver and then configure the connection. We have a number of clients using this already.

A Microsoft Dynamics 365 native driver will be available with Data Studio v2 very soon, which will support the following apps:

    • CRM Apps: Customer Service, Field Service, Marketing, Project Service Automation, Sales
    • ERP Apps: Finance, Retail, Supply Chain Management, Talent
  • Clinton Jones
    Clinton Jones Experian Elite

@Sami Laine Microsoft Dynamics 365 is available with v2.1.10 which is available already.
