Unique ID for Validation Rules

Hi,

Is there a way of exposing the unique ID for a validation rule, either via the API or another mechanism?

The reason why I'm asking is because we've started reporting on our data quality testing across the company, based on the validation rules being run by each business area. At the moment the only way that we can identify the individual rules is by what their names, so if someone changes a rule name it will look like a completely new rule in our reporting which is incorrect.

Ideally we're looking for a way to use a unique ID so if the name does change it doesn't impact the stats.

If you click Edit script then you can see all the rules with the IDs:

Another thought would be to create the Rules/Functions in a Space and share them globally so that only an empowered few can edit/rename existing Rules that are used in multiple places

Thanks Josh - is there a way of pulling out this information aside from manually going in to the edit script and extracting it from there? We've already got at least 140 validation rules and expect this to increase a lot more given that we're still in relatively early stages, so I don't really want to have to do something to manually administer the ID's if I can help it
